The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has announced that the current executive of the All People’s Congress (APC) will continue to manage the affairs of the party pending a court decision on a matter challenging one of the Commission’s earlier directives.
According to PPRC Director of Public Education and ICT, Lucien H.L. Momoh, the Commission issued directives to the APC on 13 February 2026 regarding the extension of the tenure of the party’s elected officials.
The PPRC initially extended the tenure of the APC Executive for six months, pursuant to Section 39(5) of the Political Parties Act, 2022.
The Commission subsequently directed that if the APC Executive failed to convene a National Delegates’ Conference at the expiration of the six-month period, the party’s Leader in Parliament, together with five other Members of Parliament representing each region, would assume responsibility for managing the affairs of the party until the conference was held.
However, Momoh explained that a member of the APC has since taken both the PPRC and the APC to court over the second directive.
As a result, the Commission said it is currently constrained from implementing that directive until the court determines the matter.
In light of the pending court proceedings, the PPRC has decided to maintain the status quo, meaning the current APC Executive will continue to manage the affairs of the party until the court delivers its decision.
The Commission’s position effectively places the implementation of the second directive on hold, pending judicial determination.
The development comes as the APC continues to navigate questions surrounding the tenure of its elected officials and the timing of its next National Delegates’ Conference.
The PPRC said its decision is guided by the need to respect the ongoing judicial process and ensure that any further action is taken in accordance with the eventual determination of the court.
