The Director of External Relations at the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone, Albert Massaquoi, has urged political parties across the country to focus on strengthening their internal strategies ahead of the 2028 general elections rather than questioning the credibility of the electoral body.
Speaking on the preparedness for the upcoming polls, Mr. Massaquoi emphasised that all registered political parties have an equal opportunity to win, provided they effectively organise and present viable strategies to the electorate.
“Anyone can win the 2028 elections. All political parties should do their work, have their strategies in place, and not focus on the issue of the ECSL as being credible or not,” he stated.
He reaffirmed that the Commission remains committed to delivering a transparent electoral process, assuring stakeholders that preparations are underway to ensure the elections meet accepted democratic standards.
According to him, the credibility of the electoral process should not be in doubt, as the ECSL is guided by principles of fairness, inclusivity, and professionalism in executing its mandate.
Mr. Massaquoi further noted that public confidence in the electoral system is crucial for democratic stability, urging political actors to engage constructively and responsibly as the country moves toward the 2028 elections.
His remarks come amid ongoing political discourse around electoral reforms and trust in the Commission by the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party, highlighting the need for collaboration among stakeholders to safeguard Sierra Leone’s democratic gains.
