Addressing the gathering, the Secretary-General of the National Sowies Council, Kaday Zorokong claimed that certain people employed by some
Non-Governmental Organizations have made it a habit to deride the female society in sponsored radio discussion programs. She noted that
radio panelists have been using very insulting comments against the Bondo Society, a situation which she described as unacceptable.
The Soweis scribe vowed that the women of this country will fiercely and stiffly resist any attempt by government to ban the Bondo Society,
pointing out that the initiators have so far complied with government’s order not to initiate under-aged girls or compel people
to join the society. While calling on all to preserve the Bondo culture which has transcended generations, Madam Zorokong noted however that they are not against the idea of modernizing the Bondo Society. She said that any country that does not have culture does not have
history, hence the need to preserve cultural practices. The Secretary-General urged all the initiators in the country to
initiate thousands of women this coming December so as to send a message to government and Non-Governmental Organizations that Bondo
Society is here to stay.
