The press conference started with an opening Quranic recitation by Abdullah Sulaiman Bah, winner of the 2015 2nd National Quranic Memorization Competition. Then Sheik Farook Bah a notable Islamic scholar in Sierra Leone reiterated that the Holy Quran is bigger than any university as it is a wonderful book. The Quran is the only memorized religious book in the world. He encouraged people to read the Quran as it is better to picture the Quran in a comprehensive manner.
He finally encouraged people to participate in the Quranic memorization competition.
Ibrahim Salieu Kamara, head of Tenne Development Council, stated that the Quran is beyond beauty and beyond the comprehension of man but within the knowledge of man. Quoting Ibn khaldun, a famous historian and sociologist, who once opined that “teach your children very early the knowledge of the Quran because they will cut of evil”. further making reference to the Quran as it will make you very intelligent as the devil do not have power over the person learning the Quran. Emphasizing on the importance of religion he made reference to Chinua Achebe, ‘Things Fall Apart’ where Achebe stated that “the white man came peaceful with his religion, we were amuse at his foolish but now have finally put a knife on the things that held us together and we have falling apart.” He finally stated that religion and politics are intertwined and there is no way we can separate the two.
Alhaji Ibrahim Taleb bah, Program Manager for the Foundation of Islamic Information, Sierra Leone (Ltd) emphasizes on the purpose of organizing the completion as it is to prepare for the upcoming international Quranic Memorization in Dubai with a price of $6000. Therefore, calling all Muslim leaders to join in the Holy Quranic Memorization Competition on the 26th June, 2016 at the Miatta conference Hall.
Finally, the Director of the Foundation of Islamic Information, Sierra Leone, Abdul Latif Kargbo, updates members of the press on the charitable and developmental activities they have been undertaking as they have provided scholarship programs for student, and Foundation of Islamic Information (SL) application form that is available starting on the 29th February, 2016 for the 3rd National Quranic Memorization Competition.
