The Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma, has tabled before Parliament the report on the First Session of the Africa–EU Parliamentary Assembly, highlighting key outcomes of the landmark intercontinental meeting held in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Presenting the report during the parliamentary sitting on Thursday, 9th July 2026, Hon. Koroma did so on behalf of the Leader of Government Business and Head of Delegation, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, who led Sierra Leone’s delegation to the Assembly held from 7th to 14th May 2026.
In his presentation, Hon. Koroma informed Members of Parliament that the Assembly was convened under the Samoa Agreement, which replaced the long-standing Cotonou Agreement and established a renewed framework for parliamentary cooperation between the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the European Union (EU).
He explained that the inaugural Assembly marked a significant milestone in strengthening relations between Africa, the Caribbean, the Pacific and the European Union by promoting parliamentary dialogue, cooperation and oversight on issues of mutual concern.
The Africa–EU Parliamentary Assembly brought together parliamentarians from 79 OACPS member states and 27 European Union member states, representing a combined population of more than 1.5 billion people. Discussions focused on deepening political cooperation, fostering sustainable development, promoting peace and security, advancing economic partnerships and addressing global challenges affecting member countries.
The tabling of the report provides Sierra Leone’s Parliament with an opportunity to consider the Assembly’s recommendations and explore ways of incorporating relevant resolutions into the country’s legislative and development agenda while strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and international cooperation.
