Residents of Makeni City have appealed to the Government of Sierra Leone to urgently rehabilitate the O.I.C Road within the township, citing the difficulties and dangers posed by its deteriorating condition.
The road serves as a key access route to the O.I.C Technical and Vocational Institution as well as the MCA Primary and Secondary Schools, making it an important link for students, teachers, residents, and motorists.
Community members say the poor state of the road has resulted in frequent vehicle breakdowns, causing inconvenience to commuters and increasing transportation costs for those who rely on the route daily.
Residents further noted that conditions worsen significantly during the rainy season, when large sections of the road become muddy and difficult to navigate. They expressed concern that schoolchildren and pedestrians are particularly vulnerable, often risking their safety while traveling to and from school.
According to residents, the rehabilitation of the road would greatly improve access to educational institutions and ease movement within the community. They stressed that the road remains a critical piece of infrastructure that requires immediate government attention.
Several community leaders have called on the relevant authorities to prioritize the road’s reconstruction, emphasizing that improved road conditions would not only benefit students and motorists but also support economic activities in the area.
The residents are hopeful that their appeal will receive the attention of the government and development partners, leading to timely intervention that will restore safe and reliable access along the O.I.C Road corridor.
