The Rotary Club of Freetown-Sunset has handed over a newly built public toilet facility to the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the National Tourist Board (NTB), enhancing sanitation services along the busy Aberdeen/Lumley Beach corridor.
The four-cubicle facility was developed in response to increasing demand for clean and accessible sanitation for beach users. Initiated in the previous Rotary year, the project supports Rotary International’s focus on Disease Prevention and Control by promoting hygiene and reducing the risk of sanitation-related illnesses.
To ensure reliability, the structure includes two high-capacity water tanks that provide a consistent water supply—addressing one of the major challenges affecting public sanitation points in Freetown.
Officials from the Ministry and NTB praised the Rotary Club for strengthening tourism infrastructure, noting that proper sanitation is essential for public health and for creating a welcoming environment for both local and international visitors.
The handover ceremony drew Rotarians, government officials, community leaders, and beach stakeholders, who described the project as timely and impactful. Club members reaffirmed their commitment to community service and expressed hope that the facility will inspire similar initiatives along Sierra Leone’s coastline.
