“As a post-graduate level course in international strategic studies, the RCDS visited the EU and NATO Headquarter in Brussels, UNHQ in New York, IMF, World Bank and the US Army War College in Washington DC. These study tours provided its members the opportunity to learn first-hand current trend of issues that shape global security, stability and prosperity – the golden thread of this unique course.

“The Royal College of Defense Studies (RCDS) is the senior college of the Defense Academy of the United Kingdom. The RCDS is a world-renowned institution committed to developing strategic thinkers and leaders.”

He added that in an international environment, which provides perspectives and insights from around the world, “we seek to inspire study, stimulate thinking and stir debate on contemporary strategic issues.”

He added: “RCDS members visited NATO and the EU to understand the role and place within the context of global rules, norms and institutions within the rules-based international order and how they contribute to global peace, security and stability.

We also visited New York and Washington DC to examine from the strategic perspective, the ways by which the policies of the US administration, the state of the US economy, the work of the United Nations and how actions of major financial institutions (World Bank and IMF) influence global security, stability and prosperity.

“We visited six regions in the UK to examine dynamics and resilience with respect to stability and prosperity. The NHS, universities, housing, media, tourism, and poverty agencies were visited.

The RCDS as an affiliate of KCL provide members with academic education at post-graduate level. Successful members graduate with an MA degree in International Security and Strategy. Though challenging, the MA programme is the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ in RCDS; wrapping up strategy and leadership in the context of security, stability and prosperity from national, regional and at the global levels.

“I am here with my wife and two children. My children attend full time school during their stay, giving them a remarkable experience in their education career. My family has had the opportunity to experience life in the UK. Beside my RCDS work, they find time to enjoy the fascinating landscape and people of the UK. My family also has time to feel the outstanding UK hospitality and find every moments enjoyable. The children have access to UK schooling system on scholar basis; an opportunity that truly builds their educational standard.

“RCDS is truly one of, if not the best strategic college in the world. It is all about leadership and strategy, which is the heart of national and international relations and a part of Sierra Leone’s development agenda.”
