The Administration of the Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) has with immediate effect banned all Students’ Union activities including elections, sports, social clubs, fraternities, cultism, gatherings and other activities on campus.

The decision came after a female presidential candidate in the ongoing students’ union elections was stripped naked and photographed allegedly by some fraternity on campus past weekend.

The University has vowed to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring to book culprits.

The ban was announced the Principal, Dr. Philip John Kanu who was accused by the students of interfering into Students’ Union politics and wanting to lure people to his own club.

Dr. Philip John Kanu revealed that he received a complaint letter from one of the candidates for the Students’ Union presidential election scheduled for Friday 20th August 2021 that she was invited to a meeting by a group of students and other unknown people who stripped her naked and took her photographs which they threatened to post on social media in an effort to frighten her to step down for the other three male candidates.

“I take my students as my own children for which I always admonish them regularly to be studious and discipline. I will never go down low to meddle in students’ politics. I do not want government the stop the Technical University process that is our main goal.” Dr. Kanu stated.

He said Milton Margai has set the pace in the past for the conduct of peaceful and credible elections to the admiration of all, adding that the family of the lady candidate in question has also reported the matter to the police and the police are helping in the investigations.

The administration has beefed up security in the three campuses of the Technical University including the installation of CCTV cameras in classrooms and on campus.

Police have warned the students that defaulters would be reprimanded and that with immediate effect, they will start patrolling the campus. The police appealed to the students to be law-abiding and help in the investigations.
