In other words, the Parliamentary delegation joined with other Islamic and Arab Parliaments around the world in the Kingdom of Morocco Parliament in Rabat to “Adopt a Rabat Declaration of the 14th Session of the Parliamentary Union of Islamic Cooperation” (PUIC) in a meeting held from the 11th -14th March, 2019.

 

The delegation includes Hon. Paramount Chief, Haja Fatmata Bintu Koroma Meama-Kajue, from Moyamba District, Hon. Saidu Babah Kamara, Hon. Mohamed Kanneh, Hon. Mohamed Shaw and Sulaiman Bah the PRO gave assistance to them.

 

The  aim of the Conference was to introduce and disseminate the principles of Islam; to enhance and support the implementation of Islamic principles in consultations with all OIC Member States; provide framework for cooperation and coordination among OIC Member States Parliaments in International fora and organizations; promote meetings and dialogue among OIC members and their deputies; strengthen contacts, cooperation and coordination with other Parliamentary, governmental and non-governmental organizations, so as to advance common objectives; foster coordination among people worldwide in order to respect and defend human rights and humanitarian principles with a view to strengthening international, peace based on justice.

 

The Sierra Leone delegation with other Islamic and Arab Parliaments around the world discussed and charted the way forward in order to design, shape and develop the interests of Islamic countries around the world.

 

Several statements were made by different Speakers and Heads of Delegations, calling for stronger consultations, strengthening committee relations and formations on dialogue in relation to economic and political stability among the Islamic and Arab countries.

 

The Rabat Declaration of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States also embraced:

 

The fundamental principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of other states, resolution of conflicts through peaceful means and dialogue.

 

It also stressed the vital importance of democracy, state institutions and the need to respect and safeguard human rights in the advancement of societies, their development and objectives to be achieved through accumulated experience, reforms, involvement of different groups and components of societies in political life, and through ensuring enhanced and effective political participation of women and youth.

 

The Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States is composed of the Parliaments of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States. It was established in Iran on 17th June 1999; with its head office is situated in Tehran. The PUIC Standing and Specialized Committees are:         

 

          STANDING SPECIALIZED COMMITTEE ON POLITICAL AFFAIRS AND FOREIGN RELATIONS

 

          STANDING SPECIALIZED COMMITTEE ON ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENT

 

          STANDING SPECIALIZED COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RIGHTS, WOMEN AND FAMILY AFFAIRS and

 

          STANDING SPECIALIZED COMMITTEE ON CULTURAL AFFAIRS, LEGAL AND DIALOGUE OF CIVILIZATIONS AND RELIGIONS

 

The next PUIC Conference and other related meetings will take place in Burkina Faso, in 2020.
