Ambassador Philip Bob Jusu, accompanied by Deputy Ambassador Mrs Asmaa James, paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Kraainem, Bertrand Waucquez.

The visit forms part of the Embassy’s broader outreach to municipal authorities who host its personnel and diplomatic mission, to build closer ties and encourage practical cooperation.

Mayor Waucquez received the delegation warmly and welcomed the opportunity to exchange views on matters of mutual interest.

He drew attention to the diverse make-up of the Kraainem Commune, which includes a large international and diplomatic community. He stressed the need to uphold safety and public order to preserve the area’s calm and pleasant character.

The Mayor also acknowledged Sierra Leone’s scope for growth in tourism, agriculture, and mining, noting that these sectors are central to long-term national advancement.

Ambassador Jusu introduced Deputy Ambassador Mrs Asmaa James, noting that she has lived in the commune for more than a year. He thanked the Mayor for his continued assistance, particularly on security-related issues.

The Ambassador also reflected on insights Sierra Leone could gain from Belgium’s decentralised system of governance and discussed opportunities to widen people-to-people exchanges, especially in support of social inclusion, local development and decentralisation efforts.

Deputy Ambassador James expressed her appreciation to the Mayor for granting the meeting and for the welcoming and serene environment of the commune in which she resides.
