The Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID), under the leadership of Chief Immigration Officer Dr. Moses Tiffa Baio, has commenced an induction training programme for 120 newly recruited immigration officers and assistant personnel at the Civil Service Training College, Tower Hill in Freetown.
The structured training exercise, which is being conducted in two batches over a period of three days each, is aimed at equipping the recruits with essential knowledge, operational competencies, and practical skills required for effective service delivery within the department.
According to SLID, the programme is designed to strengthen institutional capacity and ensure that new personnel are fully prepared for frontline immigration duties across the country’s entry and exit points.
Participants are being taken through key aspects of immigration laws, rules, and regulations governing the department, alongside intensive sessions on professional ethics, discipline, and service conduct. The training also places strong emphasis on clearly defined roles and responsibilities, with a focus on safeguarding national security and enhancing border management operations.
Officials say the initiative forms part of SLID’s broader reform agenda to promote professionalism, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the overall performance of immigration services in Sierra Leone.
The department is expected to provide periodic updates as the induction training progresses.
