The two major political parties in Sierra Leone, the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP and the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party have contributed the sum of Two Hundred and Seventy Thousand New Leones into the coffers of the country’s Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) in fines.

The SLPP paid a NLe150,000 fine imposed by the PPRC for a recent breach of political conduct regulations. The payment, confirmed by the PPRC, resolves a penalty levied last month and highlights ongoing efforts to maintain discipline in Sierra Leone’s fractious political landscape.

The fine stemmed from inflammatory statements made by Wusu Dadiddah Jalloh, the SLPP’s Northern Region Public Relations Officer, on November 24.

Jalloh’s remarks were deemed a violation of Section 39(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act No. 25 of 2022, which prohibits political parties and their operatives from using abusive, insulting, or derogatory language against opponents, the government, or state institutions.

This provision, part of the Act’s broader framework to regulate party registration, financing, and campaign behavior, aims to foster a “robust and responsible political environment” by curbing hate speech and incitement that could erode national cohesion.

Similarly, the PPRC recently announced that it has received the sum of NLe120,000 from the leadership of the APC in response to a fine imposed on the Party in November for contravening the Political Parties Act (No. 25) of 2022.

The fine was originally levied on Monday, 17th November 2025, following a breach of Section 39(1)(d) of the Act by Hon. Lahai Marrah, the Falaba District Chairman of the APC. The breach occurred on Saturday, 15th November 2025, prompting the Commission to take action.

In its statement, the PPRC expressed its gratitude to the SLPP and APC for promptly complying with the fines and reiterated its commitment to ensuring that political parties and their members operate within the bounds of the law.

The Commission emphasised the importance of continuing to uphold legal standards and encouraged all members, supporters, and operatives of the SLPP and APC to conduct themselves within legal confines moving forward.

The PPRC also called on the political parties to take further steps to ensure compliance with regulations and to maintain a law-abiding posture in future activities.
