Despite the vigorous penetration the incumbent All People’s Congress party made in the SLPP stronghold as displayed in just concluded bye- elections, the SLPP still secured their iron grip by thrashing the APC in not too far distance win for a throttlehold.

In a telephone interview with the APC election observer, he described the election as victory to the incumbent governance party, as he stated that the overwhelming votes that his party secured in the previous election signified that his party will continue to be in active governance in the forthcoming elections.

SLPP Spokesman, Lahai Leeman, established that the results from Segbwema last Saturday vividly demonstrated that his party is in the right traction to winning the forthcoming presidential elections as they still maintained their iron grip in the country.

“We’ll definitely win the forthcoming elections” Lahai mentioned.

In Segbwema, the SLPP was able to garner was 1, 499 votes, representing only 56% of the votes. Their bitter rivals, the ruling All People’s Congress ( APC ) , whom they are vilifying as a spent force headed for defeat in 2018, put up a splendid show, winning 825 votes, which is sum up to 31 %, Mohamed Kamarainba’s  Alliance Democratic Party ( ADP ) taking as many as 341 votes, which is 13 % of the total votes.

However, if the presidential elections are held today, with such figures from Segbwema, the SLPP will be roundly defeated as was done in 2007 and 2012, owing to the fact that the periphery that the APC used to thrash the SLPP in the bastion of the APC, is farfetched as opposed to the SLPP margin.

The results show that the waves of optimism that APC operatives have been generating about their party having penetrated the SLPP stronghold are based on reality on the ground. It is also demonstrative of the fact that APC stalwarts like Robin Faley, Moijue Kai-Kai, Sengu Koroma and Maya Kai-kai among others are doing a marvelous job in the South-East.
