The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), through its Department of Urban Roads, has swiftly intervened to clear the Brima Lane–Portee axis road after rains triggered a blockage that brought traffic to a standstill along this vital corridor leading toward Waterloo.
The obstruction was caused when waste indiscriminately dumped into roadside gutters was washed onto the carriageway, reducing the road to a single lane. This created severe delays, frustration, and safety risks for commuters.
SLRA teams worked tirelessly to remove the debris and restore normal traffic flow, a move widely welcomed by residents and road users. The operation reflects the Authority’s mandate to ensure safer, more reliable roads for citizens across Sierra Leone.
Community members expressed gratitude for the timely response, noting that the clearance prevented prolonged disruption in one of the city’s busiest corridors. At the same time, residents issued a strong appeal to fellow citizens to adopt responsible waste disposal practices, warning that indiscriminate dumping into gutters threatens both road safety and infrastructure.
The Brima Lane–Portee axis remains a critical link for trade, transport, and daily movement between Freetown and Waterloo.
SLRA officials emphasised that while the Authority will continue to act promptly in emergencies, long-term solutions require collective responsibility in managing waste and safeguarding the city’s roads against seasonal hazards.
