The Chairman of the Bombali District Council, Mohamed Mark Barbah Sisay, has led a high-level delegation to assess the damage caused by a recent fire outbreak at the facility of Sunbird Bio-Energy SL Limited in Mara chiefdom and pledged the Council’s full support for the company’s recovery efforts.
The emergency visit followed a devastating fire incident that occurred at the company’s premises on May 30, 2026, resulting in the destruction of property reportedly worth millions of Leones.
Chairman Sisay was accompanied by the Council’s Chief Administrator, Abdul Koroma, and Finance Officer, Frederick Komba Komba. The delegation toured the affected areas and received a briefing from company officials on the extent of the damage and ongoing recovery measures.
According to the Head of Human Resources and Administration at Sunbird Bio-Energy, the fire broke out between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Management immediately activated emergency response procedures, prioritising the safety of employees and personnel. As a result, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.
Company officials also informed the delegation that enhanced safety protocols are being introduced to strengthen emergency preparedness and reduce the risk of future incidents.
During the visit, Chairman Sisay expressed concern over the impact of the fire on the company and the district’s economy, noting that the incident occurred at a time when significant investments were being made to support business operations and growth.
“I was deeply disturbed upon receiving the news of this outbreak,” Chairman Sisay said, assuring management that the Bombali District Council stands in solidarity with the company and remains ready to provide any necessary institutional support during the recovery process.
The Chairman also conveyed a message of sympathy from Peter Yamba Koroma, who was unable to join the delegation but expressed support for the company and its workforce.
Concluding the visit, Chairman Sisay reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to promoting a resilient business environment in Bombali district and encouraged Sunbird Bio-Energy to maintain close collaboration with local authorities as it works to rebuild and restore operations.
