One of the senior judges in the Judiciary of Sierra Leone who also doubles as Chair of the National Coordinating Committee for the forthcoming ECOWAS Court International Conference, Hon. Justice Glenna Thompson (JSC) has received the President of the ECOWAS Court, Hon. Justice Edward Amoako Asante at the Seacoach Express Terminal, Aberdeen in Freetown.

The visit, according to Hon. Justice G. Thompson (JSC) is aimed at advancing plans for the forthcoming Conference which Sierra Leone will host for the first time from 13-16 May 2024.

It is expected that around two hundred and fifty (250) participants from member states will attend the Conference.

Whilst in Freetown, the visiting advance team will meet with dignitaries including the His Excellency the President, Rtd Brig Julius Maada Bio, the Acting Hon. Chief Justice of the Republic of Sierra of Sierra Leone Hon. Justice N. C Browne-Marke and the National Coordinating Team for the forthcoming conference comprising the Judiciary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Sierra Leone Bar Association, the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, the Sierra Leone Police and the Military, the National Revenue Authority and the Sierra Leone Fire Force etc. The visiting delegation will also inspect key facilities which will be utilised for the Conference.

The welcoming party included Hon. Justice Sengu Koroma of the Ecowas Court, the Resident Judge Port Loko District Hon. Justice Sheriff, the Resident Magistrate, Port Loko Mr Raka Kanu, the President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association Ms Edinia Swallow as well as Ms Martina Egbenda also of the Bar Association.

The President of the Court was also presented with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the Ag Chief Justice and the Sierra Leone Judiciary by Mrs Cecilia Patton-Cole.

The ECOWAS Court of Justice is the judicial organ of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and is charged with the responsibility of resolving disputes related to the Community’s treaties, protocols and conventions.
