Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, has called for the development of a comprehensive compact to serve as the driving force behind ECOWAS Agenda 2050, as the regional bloc commemorates its 50th anniversary.
Speaking during an interview on AYV’s Wake UpSierra Leone programme, Minister Kabba stressed that the golden jubilee of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) should mark the beginning of a renewed commitment to the region’s long-term vision.
He said Agenda 2050 must be catalysed by a comprehensive compact that sets out a clear roadmap for the future and articulates where the regional bloc aspires to be in the decades ahead.
According to the Foreign Minister, such a framework would provide strategic direction for Member States, strengthen regional cooperation, and accelerate progress in key areas including economic integration, peace and security, trade, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.
Minister Kabba noted that as ECOWAS reflects on five decades of achievements and challenges, the regional body must embrace a forward-looking agenda that responds to emerging global realities while advancing the aspirations of the people of West Africa.
His remarks come at a time when ECOWAS is celebrating its 50th anniversary and laying the foundation for Agenda 2050, a long-term vision aimed at deepening regional integration, promoting inclusive economic growth, and ensuring lasting peace and prosperity across the sub-region.
