The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, NabeelaFarida Tunis, has officially commissioned the state-of-the-art Hillside Hotel in Kenema, marking a significant step toward strengthening Sierra Leone’s hospitality and tourism sector.
The commissioning ceremony brought together government officials, community stakeholders, and members of the private sector to witness the unveiling of the 25-bedroom facility, described as a symbol of resilience and commitment to national development by the Skaikay family.
Speaking at the event, Minister Tunis commended the investors for their contribution to the country’s tourism industry, noting that private sector participation remains essential for the growth of domestic and international tourism.
“This facility does not just offer accommodation; it reflects the potential of Sierra Leonean hospitality and highlights the natural beauty of our country,” she said.
Located along the scenic banks of the Dorwaila River, Hillside Hotel combines modern luxury with an eco-friendly environment. The facility features 25 well-furnished standard rooms, a fully equipped gym, a children’s playground, and a restaurant offering both local and international cuisine.
The hotel is expected to create employment opportunities for residents in Kenema while providing high-quality lodging for business travelers, tourists, and visitors to the eastern region.
Developers say the project was inspired by a desire to contribute to the socio-economic development of Sierra Leone, particularly in Kenema, which continues to grow as a hub for commerce and cultural exchange.
