A devastating road accident involving a National Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) ambulance, vehicle number ANG-504, has claimed three lives along the Mayoloh – Magburakahighway.
The ambulance was transporting a pregnant woman, AminataA. Turay, from Masakeh village to the MagburakaGovernment Hospital for emergency medical attention. According to eyewitnesses, the ambulance collided with a speeding truck near the poorly lit Mayoloh bridge late in the night.
The impact was severe, resulting in catastrophic damage and tragic human loss.
Speaking to one of the staff, NEMS Nurse Mariatu M. Contehconfirmed that four individuals were on board the ambulance: Paramedic Salieu Kamara, Driver Abdul Rashid, the pregnant woman Aminata A. Turay, and an unidentified patient caretaker.
The Paramedic, Salieu Kamara, died instantly at the scene due to the force of the collision.
The pregnant woman succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The caretaker, who was initially in critical condition, tragically passed away this morning.
The ambulance driver, Abdul Rashid, is currently receiving intensive medical care and remains in critical condition.
The incident has sparked deep concerns among residents and road safety observers. Many have blamed the lack of streetlights along the Mayoloh – Magburaka stretch, poor road signage, and the careless driving habits of truck drivers, especially those traveling at night with limited visibility.
Several residents expressed dissatisfaction over the continued negligence of road safety measures, describing the area as a “danger zone” due to frequent accidents.
This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for improved road infrastructure, stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, and better regulation of night time truck movements to prevent further loss of lives.
