The United Nations in Sierra Leone expresses
concern over the violent incidents that occurred on 24 August in one of the
polling centres in Angola Town, Constituency 110 – Western Area Rural
District, during the recent bye-elections, leading to damage to properties,
including schools. The United Nations deeply condemns all forms of violence
and intimidation.
The United Nations calls on independent state institutions and political
parties to work together to sustain peace and abide to the rule of law,
upholding the principles of the hard-won democracy in Sierra Leone.
The United Nations in Sierra Leone calls for a prompt investigation of the
incidents so that perpetrators of violence may be brought to justice.
The United Nations in Sierra Leone continues to urge political parties and
other stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue and continues to stand
ready to facilitate such dialogue.
