The congratulatory statement coming from no less a country but the United States of America, will for sure lay to rest the negative comments that were being widely circulated by some unpatriotic Sierra Leoneans before the elections that should Maada Bio win the presidency, he will not enjoy support from the United States government.

The Government and People of the United States of America have been the first to congratulate His Excellency President Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio and assured him of a very strengthening bilateral support.

This was communicated through an official press statement issued by the United States Mission in Sierra Leone.

The U.S. government further commended the National Electoral Commission for administering an orderly, well-managed process, while recognizing the important role Sierra Leone’s political parties and civil society organizations played in these elections, further welcoming the statements by international and domestic observer missions affirming the credibility of the election.

According the Ambassador’s statement, the United States Department of State congratulates President Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio and his Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh of the Sierra Leone People’s Party for comfortably winning the presidential election.

As a longstanding friend, the United States congratulates the people of Serra Leone on their active and peaceful participation in the presidential elections held on March 31, which according to them is a testament to the strength and resilience of Sierra Leone’s democracy.

“Now is the time for all leaders to demonstrate their continued commitment to the Constitution, Sierra Leone’s democratic institutions, and her people. Finally, we would like to recognize President Ernest Bai Koroma for his commitment to an orderly and timely political transition. We are committed to working closely with the Government of Sierra Leone and we look forward to advancing our longstanding mutual interests in economic development, trade, health, and the strengthening of democratic institutions.” The statement stated.
