According to the Chairman of the Community, Mr. Victor Turay, they had earlier complained the matter of the abandoned structure at the Adelaide Street Police Station on three occasions but to no avail.

“We are completely devastated by this huge loss in our community. The failure of the Adelaide Street Police Station to act on the matter caused the catastrophe,” Chairman Turay noted.

According to Chairman Turay, the abandoned structure collapsed in the morning hours of Saturday July 28, 2018 that tragically resulted to the death of an elderly woman, named Musu Kallay.

The deceased, according to the neighbors, met her untimely death at around 03:00am on Saturday, when the unfinished structure collapsed on her. Despite her wailing for help, there was no emergency help at hand.

Further investigations by this press revealed that the building was sub-standard, outdated and obsolete, and posed a threat to the Handel Street environment.

Efforts to contact the owner of the building, Mr. Patrick Kamara were futile as we went to press.

Investigations continue.
