The World Bank Executive Directors have concluded a three-day working visit to Sierra Leone, ending with field inspections of key infrastructure and healthcare projects in Kailahun district.
The delegation, made up of seven Executive Directors and three Alternate Directors representing 67 countries and about 39% of the Bank’s voting power, described the mission as one of the most significant board-level visits to the country.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Madam Zainab Ahmed, representing Angola, Nigeria, and South Africa, said the visit was aimed at assessing the real-life impact of World Bank-supported programmes, with a focus on agriculture, energy, and development outcomes at community level.
During a courtesy engagement, Finance Minister Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura briefed the delegation on government’s development priorities under the National Development Plan. He highlighted key pillars including human capital development through free quality education, the Feed Salone initiative for food security, and ongoing infrastructure and energy reforms.
Minister Bangura also expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s continued support, noting the expansion of Sierra Leone’s portfolio to over $1 billion, which he said has helped strengthen economic stability amid global challenges such as inflation and debt pressures.
The visit reinforces ongoing partnership between Sierra Leone and the World Bank in driving sustainable development and economic resilience.
