In a significant move to bolster international relations, a delegation from the Foreign Relations Committee of the Egyptian House of Representatives arrived in Freetown.
Led by Tarek El Khouly, a prominent member of the Egyptian House of Representatives, the delegation embarked on a mission to fortify the bonds between Egyptian and Sierra Leonean youth.
During their visit, the Egyptian delegation engaged in productive discussions with His Excellency Ambassador Sadiq Silla and senior embassy officials, along with other esteemed Members of Parliament.
Hon. El Khouly took the opportunity to extend his congratulations to President Julius Bio on his re-election and emphasized the delegation’s intent to foster deeper connections between the youth of Egypt and Sierra Leone.
Highlighting the profound ties between the two nations, Hon. El Khouly emphasized the committee’s youthful composition, all of whom are under 40 years old, yet hold substantial backing from the Egyptian parliament and Foreign Ministry.
The talks spanned various areas of mutual interest and collaboration, with Hon. Khouly underscoring Egypt’s unwavering support for Sierra Leone’s political stability, youth empowerment, and overall prosperity.
In response, His Excellency Ambassador Sadiq Silla welcomed the delegation, expressing his honor and satisfaction that Sierra Leone had been chosen for such a pivotal partnership.
He viewed this move as a timely reflection of President Bio’s commitment to youth and women’s empowerment, evident in the increased representation of young people and women in both appointive and elective roles during his second term.
Samuel Alie Kargbo, Head of Chancery, reiterated the Embassy of Sierra Leone’s dedication to facilitating mutually beneficial programs that would further strengthen ties between the two nations.
The discussions culminated in a commitment to effective collaboration between the Members of Parliament and Sierra Leonean youth groups, extending beyond politics to encompass areas like education, culture, tourism, and agriculture. Both sides concurred on establishing a technical committee for engaging with youth groups, outlining areas of cooperation, and ultimately creating a Memorandum of Understanding in specific fields of interest.
To commemorate their enduring relationship, the Egyptian delegation presented Ambassador Sadiq Silla with the Coordination Medal as a token of appreciation.
Among the other Egyptian delegates attending the meeting were Representatives Basma Elokda, Elsaid Rmzy Elsaid, and Youssef Nawa. The partnership aims to open new avenues for mutual benefit and collaboration
