Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, All People’s Congress (APC) Party newly elected President Candidate for the June 2023 national elections, has said that he will prioritise economic transformation and infrastructural development should he be elected President of Sierra Leone.

“My aim is to build on the legacy of former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and the foundation he laid for private sector led growth, economic transformation and infrastructural development”. Dr. Samura Kamara.

At today’s National Delegates’ Convention, Dr. Samura Kamara won 1,382 votes, followed by Dr. Richard Conteh who got 88 votes and Dr. Kaifala Marah got 58 votes, Omrie M. Golly got 21 votes, Alimamy P. Koroma got 12 votes, Alfred Paolo Conteh got 12, Kemoh Sesay got 10 votes, Dr. Ansumana Usman Koroma got 10 votes, Susan Bona got 6 votes, Momoh Vandi got 6 votes, Alhaji Osman Bangura got 5 votes, votes, Abu Bakar Kalokoh got 6 votes, Mohamed M. Sesay got 3 votes, Ibrahim Mohamed Turay got 3 votes, Adliki Kamara got 1 vote and Bassi Kamara got 0 vote.

The National Chairman position was won by Minkailu Mansaray, Deputy Chairman position won by Dr. Osman Foday Yansaneh, National Secretary General position won by Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya.

Dr. Samura Kamara’s Leadership/flagbearership, as well as that of the other national and pertinent elected officers, have to be validated first by a 30 days publication in the Government Gazette by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC). This should be done by PPRC within 14 days.

If there are no objections to the list of names, then Dr. Samura Kamara is the elected Leader of the APC. If there are objections then the PPRC will sit on the objections and then give a Ruling.

If the PPRC ruling confirms that the objection is valid then Dr. Samura Kamara cannot be the presidential candidate.

If the PPRC finds that the objection lacks merit the PPRC will throw out the Objection with the concomitant effect that then and only then, can Dr. Samura Kamara be the bonafide Presidential Candidate of the APC.

Dr Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara was the Presidential Candidate for the APC party in the 2018 general Elections in Sierra Leone.

Born in Kamalo, Karene district to a mother from Kamalo, Sand Loko chiefdom and a father from Maworoko village around Gberray Junction, Maforki chiefdom – Port Loko district, Samura Kamara was raised by his parents.

After working his way through secondary school at the UCC in Bo with the help of his parents, Samura Kamara moved to Freetown and attended the St Edwards Secondary School.

In Freetown Samura Kamara continued his higher education at Fourah Bay College (FBC) University of Sierra Leone. In University he attained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, MA in Political Economy, MSc in Economics, and a doctorate (PhD) in Development Economics from Bangor University, North Wales, United Kingdom.

Dr Samura Kamara joined the commonwealth, the Word Bank, IMF and became a top policy technocrat specialising in transforming the economies of underdeveloped and developing countries.

In 1994 he was appointed Program Manager for World Bank Structural Support Plan to Sierra Leone and served as Financial Secretary for the then government of Sierra Leone – responsible for managing bilateral and multilateral Overseas Development Assistance to Sierra Leone.

Dr Samura Kamara served as the Financial Secretary and Bank Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone. Under the leadership of President Koroma, Dr Samura Kamara was appointed Minister of Finance, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation respectively.

In October 2018, Dr Samura Kamara was Elected the Presidential Candidate for the APC Party in Sierra Leone.
