During preliminary investigation by Magistrate Santigie Bangura, it was established that on the day in question, the convict went to a bakery shop managed by the victim or called him complainant, Alpha Jalloh and demanded some loaf of bread for reason being that, the bakery is owned by his grandmother, forgetting to know that the complainant, Alpha Jalloh pay rent for the use of the bakery.

Evidenced was also adduced that, when the complainant stopped the convict from taking away his bread, he stabbed him on his right side, leaving him  swimming in the pool of his own blood.

The matter was reported at the Central Police Division and at the conclusion of police investigation the convict, John Kamara was charged to court, and during preliminary investigation into the matter, sufficient evidence was adduced against the convict that warranted the Magistrate, Santigie Bangura to commit the matter to the High Court of Sierra Leone for trial where the accused pleaded guilty to the offences proffered against him.

In plea of mitigation, the Legal Aid Board Lawyer Ms. Sonia Bobanie Browne who represented the convict said that, the convict is a young man and a first time offender and now a change man.

She pleaded with Justice Ernest Gooding not slam long term prison sentence on the convict as he has spent a considerable length of time at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown and was now prepared to transform to a useful and productive citizen.

However, Justice Ernest Gooding in his wisdom stated that the convict, John Kamara intended to kill the complainant, Alpha Jalloh as he entered the bakery and forcefully took away his bread even though the complainant pays rent for the use of the bakery.

“I am not going to sentence you to life imprisonment, but I will sentence you to a long term jail, therefore you are sentenced to twenty five years imprisonment”, Justice Ernest Gooding asserted.
