During the country’s first review which was led by the then Country’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice Frank Kargbo, out of the 129 recommendations made by the review committee, the Government acknowledged that 57 of them had already been implemented. The new Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara is facing the committee to state the country’s position on the remaining recommendations and also report progress made and improvements so far.

As required by the reporting mechanism, the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) should provide the necessary technical support to government for its report compilation for submission, conduct strategic engagement meetings in ensuring the full participation of major stakeholders as requirement by the state reporting mechanism. As part of the processes that led to the preparation of the draft UPR report, HRCSL held regional engagements simultaneously in Bo for the South and East and in Magburuka for the North and Western Area.

The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone as the National Human Rights Institution is also attending the review process and will submit their own report to the Council. On Friday 19th June, 2015, stakeholders gathered at the Bank of Sierra Leone Complex, Kingtom to validate the Universal Periodic Review Report (UPR) of HRCSL.
