Brookfields in Terror

The areas that are greatly affected by this are Kroo Town, Kroo Bay, Brookfields, Lumley, Hill Station and Congo Town. Within all the places that have flooded in the west, these are the ones that suffer greatly. The cause of these floods is due to climate change and surface flooding meaning that the surfaces that surround the environment have a shallow fixation, meaning the way it’s built.
Here is another quote on why floods are bound to happen in Sierra Leone. “Freetown Capital City is not strategically located and because of this, it is prone to environmental disasters such as floodings and landslides.” (Dumbuya, 2016) In these situations, it is common for floods to take place in these situations and also it is also due to trash clogging up the drainage system and since it can’t drain due to the trash there, there is another fact why Sierra Leone experiences these natural disasters.
In retrospect, we as a nation can reduce the floods in a way, one way we can do so is to stop littering and putting trash in the sewage systems, try to encourage the nation to practice environmental practices such as cleaning, keeping safety kits on hand and try to promote the safety of the environment in a healthy fashion.
