The Rev. Father further spoke on the establishment of a kindergarten and primary school in Waterloo, which would provide free, effective and modern educational facilities.

In addition to the educational projects the mission has been supporting, the Rev. Father noted several of the mission’s assistance to Sierra Leone during the Ebola outbreak.

He explained that the mission’s initiative to establish an orphanage in the Waterloo community is to alleviate the numerous challenges less privileged children face on daily basis in that community. While commending the government for embracing the mission, the Rev. Father stated that the Orthodox Church of Jesus Christ (Greek Orthodox) joined other religious denominations in establishing a branch since 2008 in Sierra Leone.

He further said that the church has flourished over the centuries in North Africa, where some of the greatest names and events of Christian history were written and has spread into the sub-Saharan region where it has also played a role in post-colonial national construction.

The Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Millicent Gogra, commended the mission for their intervention to increase educational outcomes; and human resource capital. Gogra reassured the Orthodox Mission of the government’s willingness to work as partners for sustainable development.
