She described the work by SLRA to restore the ferry as smart, quick and quality work, adding that it is not the wish of President Bio’s government to loss its people to such a sad circumstance like ferry sink.

Minister Kargbo went on to assure that her government is currently putting structures in place to prevent a recurrence of any sea accident, stating that the commissioning of the ferry is just a beginning of great things to happen in the chiefdoms.

However, she urged all key players to work collectively for the development of the country, citing that development is not for any set of people or political party but for everybody.

The minister disclosed further that it is the right of the people to have ferry to facilitate their movements and also the responsibility of any government to provide such facilities for its people.

She concluded that her government want a short-term plan to alleviate the suffering of the people.

“I want you all to know that this is a short term plan, and very soon we will be here again to commission the Mabang Bridge” Minister Kargbo closed.

In can be recalled that on 14th December 2018 the old ferry that was plying the Mabang River between Ribbi to Koya, sank and caused loss of lives and properties worth billions of leones.

The reconstruction of the Mabang Bridge and Ribbi Ferry are part of government’s project to ensure that residents in both chiefdoms have easy access to market places, schools and other important places.

Unfortunately, since the collapsed of the bridge and sinking of the ferry, residents in that part of the country crossing the river have been facing numerous constrains.

The importance of the new ferry, many residents say, cannot be overemphasized. According to many people, the ferry can serve as a quicker link and means of transportation for school pupils, teacher, traders and workers within the chiefdom.

Member of Parliament for Constituency 093 Hon. Abass Kanu who was also part of the event said people have been suffering since the collapse of the bridge and sinking of the ferry. According to him, residents have been engaging the police, ONS and other key stakeholders to map out safety measures to prevent further accidents in the river.

Hon. Kanu called on the police to continually maintain peace and order in the chiefdoms, while calling on residents of the chiefdom to serve as watchdogs so that the ferry cannot be misused.
