In a press release issued on Wednesday, 10th August, 2016, the Coalition also insisted that Mr. Karamoh Kabba should publicly apologise to the Kono women as well as all the women of Sierra Leone for the utterances he made against sometime in July this year when the women of Kono decided to stage a peaceful protest against the illegal mining activities that were going on at the Congo Bridge in the heart of Koidu city.

They recalled that President Ernest Bai Koroma was very swift in sacking the former Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Mr. Moijueh Kaikai and his Deputy, Mr. Mustapha Bai Atilla for having  engaged in insulting each other’s mothers like Mr. Kabba did in Koidu last month.

They maintain that they fully support the resolutions and demanfds made by the Kono Women in Governance Network as well as the Kono Students Union in this matter.

While condemning the lack of support and protection for the Kono women and the protection of the environment by the appropriate authorities, they demand that the proceeds from this illegal mining should be disclosed to the people of Kono and that they should benefit from it.

They also condemned the hypocrisy of the Sierra Leone Police who, instead of investigating the illegal mining activities, actually provided armed security guards to secure the illegal miners and their equipment.
