Explaining to presenters Lamrana Bah and Phebian Swill, the other projects he has lined for for the cities of Bo and Kenma which have been suffering for want of better electricity supply for a long time now, the Energy Minister Alhaji Kanja further said that even though the two cities of Bo and Kenema cannot consume ten maga watts between them due to the weak transmission and distribution network, his Ministry has been able to negotiate another project with the African Development Bank which they have started financing to rehabilitate and extend the transmission and distribution network in both Bo and Kenema, adding that they are going to change all the cables and bring in brand new transformers.

He lamented the poor state in which the government inherited the electric generation and distribution system, saying that initially, the system was fraught with problems that since he took over a lot of changes have taken place, although he admitted that there is room for improvement.

He informed AYV that evaluation of tenders was completed this week, while the emergency situation which had been initially arranged with indigenes of Bo who rushed to salvage the situation is currently in place and providing what little electricity they can even though their machines brought it are used ones.

According to Minister Kanja Sesay, electricity provision is not the entire problem in Bo and Kenema. “We also have the transmission and distribution challenges. Between the two cities they are not consuming up to ten mega watts because the system is weak and cannot take on even manage ten mega watts.

He lamented however that if there is no light in Bo, he as a member of the Bo community is one of the people who would suffer from lack of electricity in Bo. He added however that like Bo and Kenema, there are other parts of this country that were fraught with challenges in the Energy sector which they trying to address.

He said electricity solutions are not easy to come by and that the fact of the matter is that “we inherited an ineffective and very expensive system in Bo and Kenema.”
