One of the aspirants for the position of Chairmanship of the APC, a position currently occupied by former President Ernest Bai Koroma, is veteran journalist cum-politician, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo of Constituency 035 in Bombali district.

He informed journalists in a snap interview that he intends to contest for this position as he has all what it takes to lead the party and win the next General Elections in 2023.

He promised to start his nationwide tour, starting in the southern region of Bo, where he will declare his intention to contest for the Chairmanship of the APC and replace former President Koroma.

“Looking at my background, I have the potential to unite the party by bringing the young and the old, including those who have been marginalized and disgruntled members, especially bringing the South-East and North-West together,” he said.

Hon. Kargbo has been a long-serving member of the APC since the 70s and has been very close to the leadership of the party for decades. He is known for playing a major role in the transition from the Siaka Stevens to the Joseph Saidu Momoh era, as the then Assistant Secretary for the campaign team that ushered in Momoh as President in the 80s.

He was elected Publicity Secretary of APC at the National Convention held at the Bintumani Hotel in 1981.

When Ernest Bai Koroma declared his intention to become President of Sierra Leone, Hon. IB Kargbo played a major role in putting together the strategies that made Ernest Koroma win the Presidential Elections in 2007.

In the same year, Alhaji I.B was appointed Minister of Information and Communication by Ernest Bai Koroma; a position he held for seven years and later appointed Adviser to the President.
