Her Excellency the First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has called on the President and the Government of Sierra Leone to provide for her tighter security as she goes about her job as First Lady of the country.

“I might not be the President but if I am the one they want to kill, then I think I need protection. I need protection not only as the wife of the president but as someone who works so hard for achievement of the SLPP manifesto,” First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio stated.

She reminded that she is not only a vote puller but she also has one of the largest constituencies in the country (the students, youths and women) as well as inside the SLPP itself.

She made this appeal during the 13th Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) National Delegates Conference held at the Bintumani Conference Center in Aberdeen in Freetown.

It could be recalled that, on her way from Kono to Freetown, the convoy of the First Lady was involved in a serious accident that almost claimed the lives of some of her security personnel, who are presently hospitalised with gruesome injuries.

This sad incident left the First Lady with no option but to stand before delegates of the SLPP to appeal to them to join her plead to the President and the SLPP-led Government to increase her security details, especially when she is the target.

The First Lady’s Communications and Media Team, said: “First Lady has been the recipient of more death threats from detractors of her husband than any other person in Sierra Leone. She receives vicious death threats issued on social media regularly”.

The First Lady intimated the delegates that she will not be in the position to continue doing her job until the necessary security arrangements are put together.

Meanwhile, within the shortest possible time, the First Lady is supposed to travel to Bombali, Port Loko, Kambia and Western Area Rural to continue her girls’ empowerment messaging and the distribution of free sanitary pads to school girls.
