The Alliance Democratic Party (ADP) has endorsed and nominated a woman, Iye Kakay as its Presidential Candidate and Ambrose Franklyn Kobi as the Vice-Presidential Candidate for the June 2023 elections, at the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL) headquarters in Freetown.

The nomination at the ECSL started after Ms. Kakay had earlier completed and signed the online form and the portal had verified and approved that the candidate had certified her willingness to stand for elections to the office of the President of Sierra Leone.

National Returning Officer and Chairman of ECSL, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh, said: “Pursuant to Sections 43 and 44 of the Public Elections Act, 2022, and having received your nomination as Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates to whom these nomination papers relate, and to which you have stated, you are qualified for election for the offices of President and Vice President, respectively, of the Republic of Sierra Leone. By statutory declaration herein, I hereby provisionally accept your nomination for the above position, pending any objection to the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone. Congratulations”.

Presidential Candidate, Iye Kakay is the first woman to have reached that highest position in the Party since its establishment in 2015 by its Founder Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray.

Kamarainba was previously a member of the All People’s Congress (APC) and fell out with the senior leaders of the Party. He left the APC and formed his own political party in 2015 called the Alliance Democratic Movement later the Alliance Democratic Party after being endorsed by the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC).
