His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio, has re-affirmed strong agricultural commitment for Sierra Leone at the Presidential roundtable discussion at the Dakar 2 Summit on Feeding Africa: Food Sovereignty and Resilience.

The presidential roundtable was an opportunity for Heads of state and government to speak from their heart and share their vision for growth in agriculture in their countries.

President Bio had earlier made that commitment in Moyamba- South of Sierra Leone a few days before his departure to Senegal for the Dakar 2 Summit.

President Bio said that after a diagnosis of the problems of Sierra Leone, he decided to embark on human capital development, and in that, agriculture, health and education were taken along.

“But I placed more premium on education because we do not have all the resources to take on the numerous challenges, but we have not neglected food security, health, and other aspects of governance.” That is for my first time.

President Bio stated: “I have promised that I am going to take agriculture head on in my second term as the main activity of my government. We have done extremely well in education and have been commended worldwide for the raw efforts we took in that direction and the progress we have registered. It is necessary for us to feed ourselves, especially in the wake of what is happening in Ukraine.”

President Bio further said the Summit was a unique opportunity that provided the opportunity to share challenges and also solutions for agriculture in Africa. He called for agriculture to be made attractive and the utilisation of women and youth.

“In my human capital development, I have been feeding the brain – skills knowledge that can take these youths anywhere in the world and succeed. Now, we need to feed the tummy through food security and taking care of the body.” The President mentioned.
