The administration of the University of Sierra Leone (USL) has handed over 100 Tablets to the Deputy Registrars of the three constituent colleges of the USL for onward distribution to all Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments and other key administrative staff members including those at the School of Postgraduate Studies and the eLearning Centre.

Handing over the Tablets to Olive Kash Barrie, Registrar of the University, the Vice Chancellor and Principal (VC&P), Brig-Gen. Prof. Foday Sahr said that the gesture was made against the backdrop that some Heads of Departments (HoDs) and Deans of Faculties have been complaining that they lack the basic tools to execute their functions effectively and efficiently, especially those responsibilities that relate to the use of the University’s Learning Management (Portal) system.

He noted also that the tablets are meant to enhance the work of key administrative staff members, especially those involved with the online admissions process as the University further positions itself to accommodate the large number of qualified applicants who are preparing to enrol at USL for the next academic year.

USL is rising up to the challenge which the VC&P said had been thrown by the Government to administrators of public universities in the country.

The Vice Chancellor and Principal also used the occasion to inform academic staff members that submission of all grades for the 2022/2023 academic year must be made by the 31st of August 2023 so that the University would be better prepared to commence the next academic year in accordance with its traditional calendar, which begins on the first Saturday of October, adding that the University Congregation is being reverted to its traditional month of December, all things being equal.

Brig-Gen. Prof. Foday Sahr also admonished recipients of the Tablets, which are connected to a 4G internet service, to use the equipment for their intended purpose.
