The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka has led a delegation on a comprehensive tour to Torma Bum in Bum chiefdom, Bonthe district. The tour had a dual purpose: to evaluate the progress of essential agricultural projects and to explore the vast potential for irrigation across 4,000 hectares of arable land.
Torma Bum, a historically renowned rice-growing community with a legacy of exporting rice to neighboring West African countries, emerged as a pivotal focal point for government revitalization efforts. The Minister disclosed exciting plans for the President to launch both the Feed Salone Program and World Food Day within the community later in the year, underscoring the vital role Torma Bum plays in these initiatives.
Dr. Kpaka, emphasized that achieving food security was paramount, as it would significantly reduce poverty, foster social stability, and stimulate economic growth. He called upon all citizens, particularly the youth, to recognize agriculture as a viable business venture and actively contribute to the country’s food security. He further shared insights from recent engagements with financial institutions, partners, and private sector entities eager to support the Feed Salone initiative.
In a further exploration of agricultural projects, the delegation toured the Regional Rice Value Chain Project (RRVCP), assessing the progress of rehabilitated storage facilities and ongoing construction efforts.
