The Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs has rescheduled the swearing-in and oath-taking ceremonies for elected Mayors, Chairpersons and Councilors from the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party in the North-West and Northern Regions.

The move is in response to an appeal from the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) and aims to allow for internal consultations in readiness for the upcoming dialogue.

Revised Schedule: The revised swearing-in dates are as follows: North-West Region: Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Port Loko District Council Conference Hall.

Northern Region: Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Makeni City Council Conference Hall.

The ministry reemphasised that any other inauguration events beyond these rescheduled dates will not take place until the first week of December 2023, adding that Chief Administrators must seek express permission from the Ministry before administering any oaths after the mentioned dates.

This rescheduling is in line with efforts to promote dialogue and cooperation among local government representatives, ultimately contributing to peace and national cohesion.
