Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civil Education has urged the Feminist Network for Gender Transformative Education Conference to use their platform to invest in people and to build alliances to achieve gender transformative education. The minister said that the cabinet of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio is not only inclusive, but also gender sensitive.

Minister Chernor Bah made this call during the closing session of the Feminist Network for Gender Transformative Education conference in Istanbul, where the United Nations body has gathered from 1-3 November 2023 to discuss gender equality and steps needed to advance gender transformative education around the world.

Honorable Bah further told the gathering that for the first time since independence, Sierra Leone now has a vibrant cabinet of at least one in three ministers that are under the ages of 40 years. He called on the feminist movement to cultivate relationships with feminists in government and build solidarity bridges to advance the agenda.

He therefore encouraged the conference to expand investments in people and in locally rooted movements that work with allies in government to achieve an inclusive feminist future. He committed Sierra Leone’s continued leadership in advancing girls education and gender equality.
