Residents of Goderich, Waterloo and nearby towns have called on the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Transport to extend the services of the Waka Fine bus facility to their communities.
A women’s advocate and civil society activist in Waterloo, Doris Fatima Webber said they will be very much pleased if the buses could start operations in their community.
She said it has been a very big challenge for residents in that part of the country to access public transportation to and from Waterloo, especially during rush hours on week days, adding that even the few public transportations that ply the route between central Freetown and Waterloo, run on half-ways and over charged passengers.
“Waterloo is the District Head Quarter of the Western Area Rural District and also serves as the gateway to Freetown. Transportation has been a challenge for the people of Waterloo and its environs, taking into consideration the insufficient commercial vehicles plying Waterloo –Bombay.” Doris Fatima Webber stated.
In Goderich, a senior citizen, Thaimu Bangura said they will be happy to use the Waka Fine buses at its NLe10 per trio than the constraints they are now facing to and from central Freetown.
“We want the government to kindly allow some of the buses to ply our routes so that we can also enjoy the services. We don’t want to believe that the government has given an oversight to the transportation struggle we face in Goderich”.
