Socio-Political Activist, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has called on critics to stop “bamboozle those of us who are leading the charge to combat criminal violence against women.”

Dr. Blyden said: “I don’t know much about Football but I am a hands-on Expert on Gender Equality and Women’s Rights (empowerment, protection and advancement) issues. So, I cannot be bamboozled to accept that Criminal Violence Against Women can be hidden under the guise of ‘It’s Football business”.

She said this SLPP administration lacks gender sensitive lens so they do not see the urgency for the protection of women in male-dominated realms.

“Despite the loud boasts of having 30% of Cabinet Ministers being women, they just don’t get it. I have over 30 years experience in the Sector. Yes, my recent stellar and admirable records, speak for themselves but take note that my activism is not recent because as far back as 29 years ago, I spoke globally on issues of gender rights so clearly, today in 2024, I do not speak as a newbie when I slam this government as being a serious disgrace and an embarrassment to themselves in the Gender and Women’s Rights sectors with respect to combating criminal violence against women.

“They may have done well in certain other segments but for proactively combating criminal violence against women and adequate response to such criminality and Victim Support, they just don’t understand the issues. They don’t get it”. Dr. Blyden concluded.
