The Sierra Leone Police have declared one Ibrahim Chernor Kanu, former Senior Information Officer in the Ministry of Information and Communications.

According to the Police, they are investigating Ibrahim for his alleged involvement leaking private and sensitive government documents to the main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC) before and during the 2023 multi-tier elections.

The Police say while working in that very sensitive department in the ministry, which controls key and sensitive government documents, investigations so far have revealed that Ibrahim, before he left with a Government delegation to attend a workshop/training in the UK in December, 2023, leaked thousands of secret state documents to opposition politicians.

Police say these documents were being used by the opposition in their campaign against the party in governance and this almost led to the government being defeated in the past elections.

According to the Police, it was after the elections have been concluded that investigations were able to prove that Ibrahim conspired with other persons unknown to leak those sensitive documents.

However, Police say Ibrahim’s residence at 8 Carsongah Lungi in the Port Loko district was raided but nothing of police interest was found.

Police say they have declared him wanted and have opened a wide search for him to come face the laws of the land. In addition, the Police say they have announced an amount of Fifty Million New Leones to the public for anyone who will provide information leading to his arrest.
