Born on January 23, 2001, in Freetown, Abidemi Akannie, also known as Nickie Pixie, is a 23-years old Sierra Leonean actress, model, event MC, and writer. She is currently competing in this year’s Miss University pageant, organized by Africa Young Voices Media Empire (AYV) in partnership with the National Union of Sierra Leone Students (NUSS). The pageant is set to take place on April 26th, 2024 at the Radisson Blu Hotel. Abidemi is currently a student at the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH), where she is pursuing a degree in Human Resource Management. Abidemi completed her primary and secondary education at SOS, Beckylyn Preparatory School, Ronsab, and St. Joseph’s. She later enrolled at EducAid, where she completed her senior secondary education.
Abidemi has been involved in acting and modeling since she was a child and during her time in primary school. At a young age, she personally experienced gender-based violence, which had a profound impact on her life. This experience motivated her to pursue modeling and use her voice to advocate against gender-based violence. Abidemi aims to establish the Free Women organization, as she is now partnering with other organizations that are dedicated to empowering women in Sierra Leone to be strong and independent.
In her modeling and acting career, Abidemi has been part of the USL Theater Group and Balanta Academy. She has also starred in a play called “Gbongbonsoro.” Abidemi has also being part of various movies and has collaborated with stars like Patience Ozokwor, Kofi Adjorlorlo, Ramadan Barry, Lema’s Diary, and so many more.
Abidemi’s platform for the Miss University pageant is focused on helping women understand the importance of financial independence, and how she can create solutions that will help solve the issue of financial dependency among women.
AYV Miss University 2023/2024 competition will take place on Friday, April 26 at the Radisson Blu, Mammy Yoko with the winner set to receive a prize package totalling over $15,000 with other packages.
The Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire and National Union of Sierra Leone Students (NUSS), have successfully completed intense auditions for Nine beautiful queens representing various universities countrywide at the Miss University 2023.
The show is set to be held on April, 26, 2024 at the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Freetown.
The search is on for the next AYV Miss University as Nine ladies auditioned from different universities across the country.
