He criticized the action of AIG Karrow Kamara for informing him about, William Conteh, who was alleged to have been stabbed to death by men at the Kenema Police Barracks, while chasing them to retrieve his stolen properties.
The sources further revealed that the deceased after being stabbed, struggled for his life until he finally gave up the ghost at the Total Fuel station, which was also used as an entertainment center where youths and adults converge at night to enjoy themselves.
News about the incident was carried by Star Line Radio, FM 98.4 and coincided with the minister’s appearance on the same programme. Sounding very embarrassed, he openly blamed the leadership of the police in Kenema, in particularly the AIG east, for not thoroughly briefing him on the issue and for not immediately closing the Total and Kamboi entertainment centers, described as the crime scene.
The minister threatened to close the Total and Kamboi entertainment centers, describing them as hotspots for criminal activities in Kenema. He further referred to the police boss in Kenema as “someone who was sleeping on his duties”.
The minister therefore called on the general public including civil society organizations and journalists to be present at the Total and Kamboi entertainment centers while he closed them down.
When contacted, AIG Kamara disclosed that “no amount of threats from whosoever will let me abandon my services to the people of Kenema, except if I happened to be transferred as demanded by the country’s laws.”
A journalist, Fayia Amara Fayia, said he had earlier advised the deputy minister to engage the leadership of the police in Kenema in respect of the alleged murder but that minister failed to do so and went on air to cast blames on the police.
Fayai further stated: “the minister has no evidence to use against the AIG east and to vilify, lash and demean him on air in relation to the recent murder in Kenema.”
Production manager of the Eastern Community Radio in Kenema, Philip Koroma, confirmed that he was at the Total entertainment center when the deputy minister arrived to close both centers.
“…the greatest surprise to the people present was that the minister was unable to actualize what he had initially promised on air, a situation which left the people of Kenema with no option but to refer to the minister as a man of words and not actions,” recounted Koroma.
