In less than four days since reports of a food poisoning incident in Mabella community in Sierra Leone’s capital that left over one hundred people hospitalized, the capital has again reported another suspected case of food poisoning leaving 8 people hospitalized.

The Ministry of Health said the 8 people are currently receiving treatment at the Ola During Children’s Hospital for a suspected food poisoning incident at Mill Street, around Magazine Court in Freetown.

All survivors of the alleged food poisoning incident at the Mabella community, according to the health sector, have now been discharged, but for the 2 who were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

According to the ministry, the current incident has resulted in the hospitalization of 4 males and 4 females.

“No death has been reported and the affected individuals are reported to be stable; all thanks to the swift medical intervention of staff at ODCH.”

The ministry said it is actively working with the National Public Health Agency and the District Health Medical Team (DHMT) to investigate the source of the suspected food poison with the aim of preventing further occurrences of such problem.
