The Executive of the Sierra Leone Reporters Union (SLRU) paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, at his Youyi Building office in Freetown.

During the visit, SLRU President Yeanor Esther Kabia expressed gratitude for the warm reception and underscored the vital roles both the Union and the Ministry play in nation-building.

President Kabia described the meeting as an important opportunity to seek collaboration as her team works to implement its ‘Rebranding Reporters Union’ Manifesto.

President Kabia outlined her plans for rebranding the SLRU, pointing out the Union’s dedication to the welfare and professional development of reporters throughout Sierra Leone.

She requested the Ministry’s support in areas such as capacity building, reporters’ welfare, and growth opportunities.

Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah, representing the government of Sierra Leone, congratulated President Kabia and the new executive on their recent election.

He acknowledged the important role of the Union in the media sector and assured the Ministry’s commitment to collaborating with the Union to address welfare concerns.

Minister Bah also mentioned that the Ministry is developing a media strategy and policy and is open to working with the Union on this front.

Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education Bockarie Abdel Aziz Bawoh also praised the new executive and emphasized the importance of delivering on the manifesto plans.

He encouraged the team to focus on enhancing professionalism among its members.
