In conformity with Section 88 of Act No.6 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, Members of Parliament have unanimously elected Hon. Neneh Lebbie to preside over the sitting of Parliament as Acting Speaker of Parliament in the absence of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker who are equally engaged in other official functions outside the jurisdiction of Sierra Leone.

After her consensus election, Hon. Neneh Lebbie Lebbie expressed appreciation for the Members of Parliament’s decision and the confidence and trust they bestowed upon her to serve as the Acting Speaker of the Sixth Parliament.

She expressed that she is the third woman to have acted as Speaker since the establishment of the House of Parliament.

“I, therefore, put the question, all those in favour of the motion say hay, and all those against say nay. The motion has, therefore, been carried. I, therefore, now call on the elected Honourable Member to withdraw, be robbed, and then take over the chair as the Acting Speaker”, the Acting Deputy Clerk asserted.

During her proceeding, Madam Acting Speaker announced the Laying in State Ceremony in Parliament of Hon. Benneh Bangura of Constituency 55 in Port Loko district.

She craved the indulgence of Members of Parliament to attend the Ceremony to give last respect to the deceased Member of Parliament at the Stake Hall just after the adjournment of the Parliamentary sitting.

The Acting Speaker said that since the committees have all laid their committee reports, she called for an urged need for all those Committee Reports to be debated.

The Deputy Opposition Leader, Hon. Daniel Koroma, danced to the tune of Madam Acting Speaker by amplifying the momentous need to debate the Parliamentary Oversight Committee Reports.

Madam Acting Speaker climaxed her maiden Parliamentary sitting with a melodic announcement of the two-month Parliamentary Recess.

“Honourable Members, the recess starts today. And as we go, let us take care of ourselves, and I want to wish you all a happy recess. Go and enjoy time with your family, and we will make sure we do things quietly and honorably. Before I adjourn this house, thank you again for the great honor I was accorded today. This will go down my memory lane. On that note, this house stands adjourned to the 31st of October 2024”, Madam Acting Speaker Adjourned.
