A wooden boat loaded with over ten people, including women and school pupils, over the weekend capsized in the Kabba Ferry River in Sania section, Sella Limba chiefdom, Karene district.

The boat was crossing some pupils and traders to the other side of the river when it capsized, leading to the death of one Monica Kamara, a suckling mother of a 9-month, 13 days old child.

Youth Leader of Sania section, Abubakarr Sayoh Dubumya said seven pupils and some traders were on board the boat whilst crossing the river when it capsized in the middle of the river. He said all the pupils managed to swim out of the river and were rescued by community people but unfortunately, the suckling mother, Monica Kamara, would not make it out.

Chairman of Karene District Council, Abdul Kandeh Turay, sympathised with the bereaved family, stating that as a Council, they were deeply touched by the unfortunate incident.

He assured that the Council, together with other authorities, are still working relentlessly to search for the remains of the victim.

Husband of the deceased, Gribrilla Abdulai Kamara, lauded efforts by community people in responding to the incident, despite his wife was caught in the disaster.
